8. Tizi n'Test and the High Atlas, R203, Morocco

The R203, built between 1926 and 1932 as a French colonial military road, remains remarkably narrow and largely unchanged, with sections barely wide enough for one vehicle, no barriers or markings, and dramatic drops along the route. It climbs to the Tizi n’Test at about 2,093 meters before descending 1,600 meters toward Taroudant, offering a slower but far more adventurous alternative to the modern motorway.
